In my work "Anuenue" (2023), a rainbow made of wool yarn traverses the utopian world inside the window. In Hawaiian culture, rainbows have a lovely name, “Anuenue”, they believe that a rainbow is a bridge connecting gods and humans, life and death. When someone passes away, they optimistically believe that the person just has gone to the other side of the rainbow. Yarn also reminds me of my grandmother. In my childhood, every evening, I would sit with her on the couch watching TV, and she would knit sweaters for me, which is the most peaceful time in my memories. So the Anuenue, like a life mentor, uses a gentle manner to lead me into this world and also guides me out.
